The Medical University of Vienna organizes twice a year a Ph.D. call and is offering 28 fully funded PhD studentships with flexible start time in summer 2023. We encourage ambitious and creative young scientists, who are interested in research in the areas of human-centered technologies and sciences, with an M.Sc. or equivalent degree in (Bio) Engineering, (Bio)Informatics, (Bio) Physics, Cell/Molecular/RNA Biology, Biochemistry, Neurology, Mathematics, Epidemiology, Computer Science, Translational Medicine or a related field to develop their original research project with the support of our renowned and international scientist.
Our university is a leader in transnational science and has an excellent infrastructure that invites you to conduct research and network with your peers. We are connected and next to one of the largest university hospitals in Europe, which gives scientists the opportunity to not only work for but with patients closely together. Last but not least, our university is home to a dynamic international research community that is constantly growing and is well networked both nationally and internationally. As a PhD student, you become part of our university staff and as such are fully entitled to salary, health insurance, and benefit from wellness and continuing education opportunities that we offer to our employees. EU citizens do not have to pay tuition fees for their Ph.D. studies at our university. The ÖH fee of rd EUR 25 is the only fee charged per semester. There are tuition fee waiver schemes for non-EU citizens that make doctoral education at our university very affordable. About the application
Applications have to be made via the University online application portal, please click here to apply. All open PhD studentships are advertised on our website, and applicants can choose up to 3 projects of interest. For the application procedure, you must submit all diplomas and certificates in English or German. You may do the translation yourself for the application process. At admission you will need to provide us with an official translation of the documents.
Interviews: Online interviews will take place in May, 2023 and the organized campus visit will take place end of June, 2023 for successful Ph.D. applicants.

About the general requirements
- Master degree or equivalent in a relevant field (depends on the open Ph.D. positon). You can apply to the PhD call before graduation and indicate the expected graduation date in your application.
- Excellent English skills – we are an international crowd and English is our working language!
- Solid knowledge in the science field you are applying in
- High motivation, self- initative and a strong passion and commitment to research
- Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary and international team
- Project-specific qualifications as described in the respective project description
Prefered:
- Proven previous research experience
- Experience abroad
Terms:
The position will initially be limited to one year, an extension is possible for the duration of the dissertation project. Payment will be based on the Collective Agreement for University employee or FWF salary agreement for PhD students depending on the funding of the project.
