Introduction


The China Scholarship Council (CSC, Chinese: 国家留学基金委) provides support to enable  Chinese citizens (students and scholars) to study abroad and international students studying in China. The CSC funds approximately 20,000 Chinese students studying abroad in 2022. In the future, CSC will continue increase the number of people, with the goal of developing exchanges between China and other countries in the fields of education, technology and science.

Eligibility:
  • Chinese students with a strong academic background. 
  • Students must hold a PR Chinese passport (applicants from Hong Kong or Taiwan are not eligible). Applicants can either be resident in China at the time of application or studying overseas.
  • Students with prior experience of studying overseas are eligible to apply. 
  • All the applicants need to contact their supervisors abroad by themselves.
CSC Scholarship covers:
  1. Maintenance allowance 
  2. One economy class return journey to China
  3. International health insurance
  4. International tuition fee (only limited to the universities which the csc has signed the cooperation)
  5. Visa application fees
For the People Who Want to Do:
  1. PhD Degree (36-48 months) 
  2. Postdoc (6-24 months)
  3. Master Degree (12-24 months)
  4. Visiting Scholar (3-24 months)
  5. Bachelor Degree (36-60 months)
  6. Internship for Undergraduate Student in a Lab (3-12 months)
How to Apply

Prospective scholars must follow all of the following steps in this order:

  1. Prospective students approach Universities and supervisors with details of their proposed project. It is essential that students make contact with departments/supervisors before submitting a PhD application
  2. Applicants need to meet the English Language requirements of different universities/ Institute. In some cases, with a “language proof” written by a potential supervisor, which could prove the English leve of applicants, the CSC would consider it.
  3. Applicants must complete the CSC application on the CSC website between 10 March  – 31 March every year

  1.  The CSC will not accept any application that is conditional upon English.
  2. Students will be informed of the progress of their scholarship application and whether they have been selected as a potential scholarship recipient.
  3. Between March and June, CSC will review and approve the scholarships.
  4. Upon fulfilling any outstanding requirements for admission to a programme (for example, provision of a satisfactory Masters qualification result if necessary, and arranging visas and travel), CSC scholars will commence their research career from around Septemper every year.
