ICIQ

Deadline: Till the positions are filled.

The Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) is seeking 2 Postdoctoral Researchers to join the Martin research group. This position will be funded by a Project in Collaboration with Eli Lilly.

ICIQ is committed to performing excellent research at the frontier of knowledge in the broad area of chemistry (Catalysis, Artificial Photosynthesis, Activation of Small Molecules, Photovoltaics, Functional Molecular Assemblies and Chemical Biology, from either theoretical or experimental perspectives). The institute also aims at training the future generation of scientists by offering high-quality educational programmes to master, PhD students and postdoctoral researchers (Full details on http://www.iciq.org/).

Our mission is to lead, from the vantage point of molecular science, cross-strategies for solving major social and economic challenges, such as climate change and sustainable supply of energetic and raw materials, thereby contributing to the establishment of a knowledge-based economy and improving citizens’ quality of life in our influence area.

ICIQ is looking for 2 postdoctoral researchers in the group of Prof. Ruben Martin. The candidates will focus their research on the design of catalytic technologies for the functionalization of C–C bonds by a combined utilization of metal catalysts and light-induce endeavours.

Responsibilities

  • The candidates will conduct independent research as well as in collaboration with group members of the group and/or the project.

Requirements:

  • The candidates must have a PhD in chemistry.
  • We are looking for candidates with a solid and proven track record in Organometallic chemistry, particularly in cross-coupling reactions, and in photochemical settings who has an interest in the development of metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions for forging sp3 bond-linkages.
  • The candidates must submit the following documents: (a) a CV (specifying any relevant experience, along with a detailed description of previous accomplishments); (b) a cover letter highlighting the interest in the position, the reasons for applying to our group, his/her particular strengths & weaknesses, future career plans, hobbies, self-motivation and ability to work on a team; (c) a short description of previous research: (d) names and contact addresses of at least two referees that might be willing to write down a recommendation letter.
  • Proven good knowledge of English.
  • Candidates must have a strong background and proven track record in organometallic chemistry, particularly in cross-coupling reactions, and in photocatalysis with considerable experience on the optimization of catalytic reactions and excellent Schlenk techniques when dealing with air- and moisture-sensitive species.
  • Capable of working in a team, decision making, creative thinking and problem solving.
  • The selected candidates should be motivated, open-minded, dynamic and capable of working independently as well as in a team.
  • strong commitment for scientific research in a competitive environment.
