At the MLDS unit in OIST led by Prof. Makoto Yamada and the Trustworthy ML group in UIUC led by Prof. Han Zhao, we are looking for a staff scientist or postdoc to conduct machine learning research in particular for the trustworthy ML field. Below are the details of the position. This position is equivalent to the official Postdoc/Staff scientist call in OIST.
Position Summary
The successful candidates will develop new computationally efficient trustworthy machine learning algorithms and optimal transport methods with closely collaborating with OIST and UIUC research groups. The successful candidate will stay most of his/her time at OIST and works closely with Prof. Zhao remotely. The candidate can stay at UIUC campus for a couple of months per year to closely collaborate with Prof. Zhao.

Responsibilities
- Develop machine learning models for high-dimensional, real-world applications
- Develop machine learning models for trustworthy ML and/or optimal transport methods, and apply the proposed methods to real-world applications.
- Pursue your own scientific interests in a highly collaborative environment.
- Write research papers and develop software in Python.
- (For staff scientist applicants) Mentor younger scientists.
Qualifications (Required)
- PhD in Computer Science, a related technical field
- Experience in Machine Learning, computer vision, and natural language processing, or related fields.
- Programming knowledge (e.g., Python or C++)
- (For staff scientist applicants) Strong research background and publications in top tier computer science conference or journal including ICML, NeurIPS, AISTATS, ICLR, and/or JMLR.
Qualifications (Preferred)
- Strong research background and publications in top tier computer science conference or journal including ICML, NeurIPS, AISTATS, ICLR, and/or JMLR
- Ability to design new research problems.
- Experience in collaboration with non-machine learning experts.

Term & Working Hours
Full-time, the position is initially for three years and can be extended to 2 more years based on performance and mutual agreement.
