The Collaborative Research Center 1182 at Kiel University aims to understand why and how microbial communities form long-term associations with hosts from diverse taxonomic groups. We are particularly interested in the specific functional consequences of the interactions, the underlying regulatory principles, and also the associated evolutionary dynamics. Project B4 “Microbioal interactions within the metaorganism: mechanisms of bacterial niche specialization and warfare in symbiosis

• B4.2: PhD position in bacteria-bacteria interactions in host-associated microbial communities

Project C4 “Understanding phage dynamics and function in marine sponges

• C4.3: PhD position on the impact of phage-bacteria dynamics in wild-caught sponge individuals over the annual seasonal cycle

Project C5 “Functional impact of recent shifts in human lifestyle on host-microbiome interactions”

• C5.1: PhD position in multi- studies in the human gut microbiome as part of the Global Microbiome Conservancy initiative.
• C5.2: PhD position in the Evolution of IgA-bacteria interactions within the human metaorganism.

Project Z2: Microorganisms: Culturing, phylogenetic analysis and genetic engineering

• Postdoc position in microbiology and molecular biology and one or more of the following approaches: microbial cultivation, isolation under anaerobic conditions, genetic approaches

Requirement for employment is a university degree (Master or equivalent) in biology or in a related subject of the CRC for a PhD position. Application for Postdoc position requires a PhD. Subject-specific qualifications depend on the specific project.
