We accept M.S. and B.S. students in Textile Chemistry/Engineering & Polymer and Color Chemistry for independent research studies and NSF REU summer research each year.
We are inviting talented and motivated individuals to join the Molecular Analytics and Photonics Lab (MAP Lab), led by Prof. Yang Zhang. Our lab focuses on developing small-molecule fluorescent probes and single-molecule imaging techniques. The lab is currently funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Science Foundation (NSF), offering fully funded PhD and postdoctoral research opportunities.
Research Areas:
1️⃣ Small-Molecule Fluorescent Probe Development
1 Postdoctoral Fellow, 1-2 PhD Students
Postdoc candidates with a background in organic synthesis of fluorescent probes, fluorescence spectroscopy, confocal microscopy, or cell staining are preferred. PhD applicants with a background in chemistry or polymer science are highly encouraged to apply. Successful candidates can be admitted to the Chemistry or Fiber and Polymer Science PhD programs at NC State.
2️⃣ Single-Molecule Imaging
1 Postdoctoral Fellow, 1-2 PhD Students
Postdoc candidates with experience in single-molecule localization microscopy, optical platform development, image processing, or machine learning are preferred. PhD applicants with a background in biophysics or biomedical engineering are highly encouraged to apply. Successful candidates can be admitted to the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering PhD program at UNC Chapel Hill/NC State.
Lab Advantages:
🌟 Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Our lab operates at the forefront of chemistry, biophysics, molecular biology, and biomedical engineering, providing extensive academic support and opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration.
🌟 Rich Research Resources: The lab is affiliated with NC State’s top-ranked Department of Textile Engineering, Chemistry, and the Integrated Science Institute. We work closely with the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering at NC State and UNC Chapel Hill, enjoying access to world-class research facilities and resources.
🌟 Prime Location: The lab is situated in the Research Triangle Park (RTP), one of the top tech hubs in the U.S., neighboring Duke University and several renowned research institutions and companies. This location offers exceptional opportunities for both academic research and professional development.
