Dr. Qian is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Wayne State University (WSU). He received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. His Ph.D. degree in Transportation Engineering is from the University of California, Davis. He has strong theoretical foundations and practical experience in transportation engineering. His research interests are in the areas of emerging mobilities (e.g., shared micro-mobility and CAVs), transportation safety and health, GIS in transportation planning, and transportation resilience. He has scientific and technical publications in several journals, e.g., Journal of Transportation Research Part A, Journal of Transportation Research Part D, Journal of Transport Geography, and Journal of Transport and Health. Prof. Qian has successfully received funding from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).

The Emerging Mobility Lab at Wayne State University (WSU), led by Dr. Xiaodong Qian, invites applications for one Ph.D. student position in areas of emerging mobility, pedestrian & cyclist safety, and transportation resilience. Prospective students must have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering or related fields, such as Transportation Engineering. Preferred skills/experiences include spatial analysis, transportation simulation, data-driven modeling, and computer programming (Python, R, C, etc.). The expected start time is Fall 2024. Successful applicants will receive full tuition support and stipends (including summer) for the duration of their studies.
