Paths to a Psychology Ph.D.: An Information Session and Workshop

Join Stanford Psychology graduate students, research assistants, and faculty for a free one-day virtual information session and workshop on applying to research positions and Ph.D. programs in psychology. The Paths to a Psychology PhD program — both the information session and workshop — is open to people from all backgrounds.

There are 2 components to this program:
1) an information-session where you will hear from faculty, graduate students, postdocs, and research staff about their experiences and insights regarding their paths to psychology research, what is typically involved in a psychology program, and key components of the application
2) a workshop where you can participate in one-on-one or small group sessions with a graduate student, postdoc, or research staff member to work with you on specific components of your application.

We welcome anyone to sign up for the information session. For the workshop, due to limited resources, we ask that you apply.

Please note that this event is NOT associated with admissions to or employment at Stanford University.

What should I expect in this form?
– This form is split up into 6 brief sections.
– If you are interested *only in attending the info sessions* where you will hear from faculty, graduate students, postdocs, and research staff about their experiences and insights, please sign up by completing a few questions about your demographic background, your prior experience with any similar informational sessions, and your academic interests/future goals.
– If you are more certain about going into a research-focused psychology graduate program or gaining experience as a research assistant, you may benefit from also participating in a *workshop* with current psychology graduate students, postdocs, and research staff. If you are interested in this component, we ask that you apply to participate where in addition to background questions you will be prompted to write more specifically about what you need help with and more about your interests. We welcome any questions about **any stage** of the application process!

The Stanford Psychology Department is committed to building an inclusive field. This informational event and workshop is specifically for individuals from underrepresented groups to help navigate the various paths to a PhD in psychology. This includes, but is not limited to people who identify as: a woman, a person of color, a first-generation college student, low-income, LGBTQ, disabled, and the intersection of these identities. You must be 18 or older to attend.

Panelists and workshop mentors will mainly be speaking to non-clinical areas of psychology.

Important Dates
– Applications are due by *Friday, September 22nd, 2023* at 11:59pm Pacific Time.
– Applicants will be notified of their participation for the info sessions *or* both info sessions + workshop by Friday, October 6th, 2023.
– The webinar will be held online *Saturday, October 21st, 2023*, over the course of 10am to 5pm Pacific Time. The workshops will take place in the weeks before and after the webinar.
